Obsidian Digital Garden - The Ultimate Personal Blogging Solution for Obsidian Users
TL;DR
I chose obsidian-digital-garden as my Blogging Solution, since it integrates seamlessly with my Obsidian Note-Taking Workflow, has low learning cost, and the Blog Site it generates is good-looking and Highly-Customizable.
My journey for an Ultimate Blog Solution
Let me share the journey of looking for a Personal Blog System that meets my needs to the Fullest.
Here are my needs:
- First, the blog system has to be based on Markdown, as I am a Computer Science student who writes Markdown all day.
- Second, it would be great if it can seamlessly integrate with Markdown Note-taking Apps, such as Notion, Obsidian(which I use for ALL my notes).
Blog is a static site. To host my blog for free, most solutions store my blog notes on Github Repository, and host the contents on a site-hosting website like Vercel.
I categorize the blog systems I found into 3 types:
- The first category is traditional Markdown-based Blogging Systems, like Hugo, Hexo, etc. These systems are inconvenient since I need to move my Obsidian Notes with
[[wiki links]]
, as well as the attachment files into the Blog System Folder, publish it to github and trigger deployment. - The second category are those that integrates with Markdown Note-taking Apps, like Notion Next for Notion
The third cateory are those integrated with Obsidian:
- The Obsidian-Publish Plugin is the blog-hosting service by official Obsidian team, it is good, but expensive and doesn't support full-text search.
- Quartz is an alternative to Obsidian-Publish , but it is inconvenient as it is not implemented as an Obsidian Plugin, and it is also not-lightweight
- The obsidian-github-publisherplugin publishes your Obsidian Notes as a peronal wiki site using Material for MkDocs, a Markdown-based static site generator geared towards building project documentations.
- obsius and other obsidian plugins which supports publishing Single Notes, but doesn't support building a blog by publishing multiple notes and refering to each other via
[[wiki links]]
.
Eventually, I find obsidian-digital-garden, which is a Obsidian Plugin that
- integrates seamlessly with my Obsidian Note-Taking Workflow
- has low learning cost
- generates good-looking and Highly-Customizable Blog Sites like Obsidian-Publish and Quartz
Update the Plugin&Template
The plugin can be updated in Obsidian. Remember to update the template when you update the plugin to make sure the garden support all features.
